Shaker Shark Swim Meet Expectations

  • Arrive at the pool at least 15 minutes before the scheduled warm-up time begins. This time will be listed in the meet information, in the newsletter, and on announcement boards.
  • Upon arrival, swimmers should report to their coach for warm-up instructions and to have their event numbers written on their hand. It is important for all swimmers to warm-up with the team.
  • After each race, swimmers should go immediately to their coach.
  • After your child swims, tell him/her how great they did! The coaching staff will be sure to discuss stroke technique with them. You need to tell him/her how proud you are.
  • Check with a coach before leaving to make sure your swimmer is not included on a relay.

How do I sign up for a meet?

Info!

The meet schedule has the cost and entry deadline listed for each meet. Additionally, a more specific information sheet will be distributed about a week before the entry deadline.

To sign up, enclose your payment in an envelope with your swimmer's name and the name of the meet you wish to enter written on it and hand it to a coach or mail it to Shaker Swimming. Be sure to enter by the deadline; no late entries will be accepted.

What events will I compete in?

Your child's coach will choose their events for them. Event requests may or may not be honored. Not even Michael Phelps chooses his own events.

Coaches choose swimmer's events with careful consideration of their needs as well as their long term growth. For example, while a swimmer (or his/her parents) may want to compete in the same events again and again in order to achieve specific times or to win awards, the coach may want the swimmer to try a new event, or compete in a specific stroke or distance that the swimmer has been practicing.

Your child's events will be posted at the Middle School Pool and Woodbury Pool prior to the meet. Look at this "Meet Entry" to see what your child is swimming. If you notice a problem, consult your child's coach.
