Meet Information

The following meet information is available and will be available at practice.

• Canton City Schools Age Group & Open Meet on October 16 - 17 at C.T. Branin Natatorium is due Wednesday, September 15.  This meet is for Senior Shark, Select Youth and youth Shark swimmers with experience.
• Peg Neal Pentathlon on October 23 at Lakewood High School is due Wednesday, September 15.  This meet is for Select Youth swimmers.  Swimmers must swim all 5 events.
• The Mile Meet on October 24 at CSU is due Wednesday, September 22.  There are qualifying times for this meet.  This meet is for Senior Shark and Select Youth swimmers.
• The Freestlye Frenzy Meet on October 31 at CSU is due Wednesday, September 22.  This meet is for Select Youth, Preselect Youth and All Shark swimmers.
• The Odd Age Meet 0n November 6 - 7 at Strongsville Recreation Center is due Wednesday, September 29.  This meet is for Senior Shark, Select Youth, Preselect Youth and All Shark swimmers.

New Swimmer Tryouts

To join the team, the Sharks require swimmers to tryout. Tryouts will be held at Shaker Middle School Pool from 5:20 – 5:40 p.m.; 5:40 – 6:00 p.m.; 6:00 – 6:20 p.m.; 6:20 – 6:40 p.m. on the following days:

·        Wednesday, September 1

·        Friday, September 3

·        Wednesday, September 8

·        Friday, September 10

 Please choose a date and a time to attend.

 

At the tryout, the participant must swim one length of the pool without stopping. In addition, the Sharks determine admission by evaluating swimmers’ deep water safety, underwater comfort, and listening skills.  A successful tryout allows swimmers to begin the Two-Week Evaluation Period. 

Please turn in all paperwork and payments by Friday, September 3 to insure your spot on the team.  Paperwork and payments can be turned in at tryouts or brought to the Woodbury pool.

Short Course Season Starting Dates

Pre-Select, All Sharks, Developing Sharks, and Masters begin Monday, September 13th. Select Youth and Senior Sharks begin Monday, August 30th. See you there!

Almost all the information for the upcoming Fall and Winter Short Course season has been posted on the webpage. For those new to the Shaker Swimming program, please read this letter about our parent meeting on August 31st.

Sectional Results

Congratulations to Joan Thompson and Lauren Vavruska for their performances at the 2010 Summer USA Sectional Meet held at Purdue University July 21 - 24, 2010. This was a very fast meet. The girls represented Shaker Swimming well. Joan competed in the 800 free (9:30.85), 200 free (2:13.76), 400 free (4:35.36), and the 1500 free (18:14.15). Lauren competed in the 50 free (:29.07), 100 free (1:02.86), and 100 back (1:13.08). Way to go girls! Busbey Meet Results

Well done, team! The Sharks finished 9th place overall as a team at this year’s Busbey. An improvement from 15th place last summer.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who broke records at the Busbey meet this past weekend at Cleveland State:

• Julia Armitage - 11-12 Girls 200 Breast
• Alex Murlin - 11-12 Boys 200 Back
• Will Chan - 10 & Under Boys 50 Breast, 100 Breast, 50 Free, 200 Free, 50 Back
• Nicholas Bislich - 10 & Under Boys 400 Free
• Boys 10 & Under 200 Free Relay of Will Chan, Nicholas Bislich, Charlie Gustafson, and Gautam Apte

Also, congratulations to Will Chan, whose time of 39.92 in the 50 Breast sets a new Lake Erie Swimmer record in the event, and when the results officially come in, likely puts him in the Top 10 Nationally in the event. Will also finished as High Point Runner-Up in the 10 & Under Boys age group this weekend. Way to go!

Congratulations & Solon Meet Results

Congratulations to Will Chan, who set a new Lake Erie Swimmer and Event record in the 10 & Under Boys 200 Breast this past weekend in Solon. Will’s time of 3:09.96 beat the previous record, held by Nicholas Crane by more than 5 seconds! Click through to see all the results from Solon.

Practice Changes

Saturday, June 5: There will be no Shaker Shark practices due to the Canton Swim Meet.

Wednesday, June 9 will be the last morning practice at Woodbury.  We will offer evening practices at the Middle School all week.

Saturday, June 12: There will be no Shaker Shark practices due to the Solon Meet.  Summer practices begin on Monday, June 14 in the morning at Thornton from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. or 9:45 - 10:30 a.m. OR in the evening at the Woodbury Pool from 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. or 5:45 - 6:30 p.m.

Friday, June 18: There will be NO youth shark or preselect youth EVENING practices at The Woodbury Pool due to the Busbey meet.

Shaker Shark Summer Information for New Swimmers

The following meet information is available here and will be available at practice closer to the meet date:

• Shaker Sharks/Thornton Swim Team  Summer Time Trials on Wednesday, June 23 at the Woodbury Pool.  Entries are due June 18.
• Shaker Sharks/Thornton Swim Team vs Purvis Park on Wednesday, June 30 at Purvis Park, University Heights.  Entries are due June 23.
• Lollipop Meet - Shaker Sharks/ Thornton Swim Team vs Solon on Tuesday, July 6 at Solon High School.  Entries are due July 2.
• Parkview Summer Sizzler on Sunday, July 25 at Parkview Pool, Mayfield Village.  Entries are due July 2.  This meet is a good meet for all youth swimmers.
• LE Long Course Championships on July 30 - August 1 at CSU.  Entries are due July 9.  There are some qualifying times for this meet.  Those who qualify should attend this meet.
