Congratulations!

Congratulations to all Shaker Swimmers who particpated in Long Course Championships this past weekend.  Some notable achievements:

  • Joan Thompson added the 800 freestyle to the list of events she has qualified in for the 2008 Zone meet
  • Libby Dixon established a new team record in the Girls 13 - 14 400 IM - 5:43.24
  • David Kloos was the 13 - 14 Boys High Point Award Winner

Good luck to:

  • Joan Thompson (200, 400, and 800 free)
  • Marisa Vavruska (100 breast)
  • Callum Orr (400, 800, 1500 free).

They will be competing for Team Lake Erie in the upcoming 2008 Mega Zone Meet held in Indianapolis from August 6-10, 2008.

Also traveling to Indianapolis will be some of Shaker Swimming’s staff:

  • Sarah Tobin, Lake Erie’s Zones Coordinator
  • Bryan Wamsley, Team Lake Erie 12 and Under Coach
  • Tina McCauley, Central Zones Championship Meet Coordinator

Woodbury Road Construction

Attention Shaker Swimmers attending Woodbury Summer Practices:

Woodbury Road will remain under construction through the end of July.  We recommend you drop swimmers off and pick them up either at the Onaway Elementary School parking lot or at the Shaker Aministration building parking lot and then walk them in through the back doors of the pool located by Onaway Elementary School.  Sorry for the inconvience.

Freelander Meet Participant Information

Warmups

  • 12 and Unders - 8 a.m. (Meet starts 9 a.m.) both Saturday and Sunday
  • 13 and Overs - Saturday 12 p.m., Sunday 12:30 p.m.

All events are timed finals.  Warmups will be 45 minutes with the meet starting approximately 1 hour after the start of warmups.

Arrive 10 minutes early to sign in and check in with Eric!

Natalie Coughlin and Aaron Peirsol Set World Records

Aaron Peirsol

Last night at Olympic Trials in Omaha, Aaron Peirsol and Natalie Coughlin each broke the world record in the 100 Backstroke. Natalie Coughlin became the first woman ever to swim the event in less than 59 seconds. Check out the article linked below for more details about last night’s trials.

Practice Changes

July 1, 2008

Friday, July 4:  There will be Sr. Shark and Masters practice from 5:45 - 7:15 a.m.  There will also be select youth practice from 7:15 - 8:45 a.m.

Saturday, July 5:  We will not offer any practices on this day.
