Summer 2010 Long Course Season Summary

The coaches would like to congratulate all the swimmers who participated in this past summer's long course season. Below are some highlights of this summer's team:

  • 17 team records were broken or established. Some records were broken several times over the course of the summer season. Check out the top times page to see the records! Congratulations to: Gwyneth Resch, Will Chan, Nicholas Bislich, Daemyen Haywood, Gautam Apte, Chachi Gustafson, Oliver Wenzler, Julia Armitage, Caroline McCormick, Felipe Lamenza, Max Gustafson, Alex Murlin, Sameer Apte, Owen LaFramboise, and David Bates for breaking records this summer.
  • Will Chan broke 2 Lake Erie Swimmer records: the 50 breast and 200 breast, establishing new bests of 38.73 and 3:09.96.
  • Will Chan and Nicholas Bislich traveled to Nebraska to attend the Central Zone Championship meet. Will swam 6 individual events and 2 Lake Erie relays. He finished 3rd in the 50 free, 4th in the 100 breast, 2nd in the 50 breast, and 3rd in the 200 IM. Those performances were good enough to earn him 6th place in the 10 and under boys high points scoring. Nicholas competed on the 2 Lake Erie relays and split a best time in the 50 free. Way to go!
  • 12 swimmers completed their IMX events in a very short season, an improvement from just 1 swimmer last summer. Congratulations to Gautam Apte, Sameer Apte, Julia Armitage, Nicholas Bislich, Will Chan, Maya Cante, Casey Crowley, Max Gustafson, Felipe Lamenza, Alex Murlin, Hannah Patacca, and Oliver Wenzler.
  • The Sharks finished 10th at Long Course Championships, an improvement from 14th place last summer. In USA Swimming's Virtual Club Championships, the Sharks finished 9th, an improvement from 12th last summer.
  • Lauren Vavruska and Joan Thompson traveled to Purdue to compete in the Sectional Meet. Joan competed in the 800 free, 200 free, 400 free, and 1500 free. Lauren competed in the 50 free, 100 free, and 100 back. Congratulations!
  • Many swimmers achieved new best times, and swam their first legal races in butterfly and IM.

Congratulations again, enjoy your short break, and we hope to see you in the Fall for short course season, and again next summer!
